Course SummaryThe hands-on NetBSD System Administration class covers the fundamentals of NetBSD system administration, including: installation (i386), system services, installing software packages, configuring and building kernels, network configuration, and more.This class is for users of Linux, Unix or BSD operating systems to provide beginning system administration skills for the popular NetBSD operating system. Similarities and differences for many administration tasks under Linux and other BSDs will be discussed. This class is designed for students who are new to BSD administration. Some Unix, BSD, or Linux experience would be helpful. Although this course uses NetBSD for its curriculum, most of the concepts are applicable for LInux, OpenBSD, BSD/OS, and FreeBSD administration.

Course Details and Policies
InstructorThis class is taught by Jeremy C. Reed. Reed is a NetBSD committer (developer). For the past four years, he has managed a few websites covering BSD news, howtos, and advocacy, including BSD Today and BSD Newsletter.com. He has written several articles (for various media) teaching about and promoting BSD operating systems. As a head Unix admin for a multi-state ISP and as a consultant, Reed has installed, upgraded, patched, maintained and configured various versions of NetBSD (as well as other BSD and Linux operating systems). He is a maintainer of several pkgsrc packages. And Reed has built custom NetBSD auto-installer boot disks and live NetBSD CDs (used for demonstrations, system rescues, back-up servers, et cetera). Reed has taught over 40 workshops and classes covering open source and Unix administration concepts.
